Cal's Hawaii Training Trip Blog: Day 6 With Lauren Boyle

Jan. 13, 2010

HONOLULU - Senior swimmer Lauren Boyle blogs about Colleen Fotsch's birthday and dinner on Waikiki.

Day 6 - Jan 11

The day kicked off at our usual spot on Waikiki Beach with team training. We had a brief dryland piece followed by swimming. Today was Colleen Fotsch's birthday! She turned 20, so we all sung 'Happy Birthday' at the end of workout.

After practice we wandered back to our apartments. The Gold group had the afternoon off. Some of the Golden Bears drove to Makapuu Beach to spend a relaxing day sunbathing and swimming. The rest of the Gold group spent the day hanging around Waikiki doing the same kind of thing. Sara (Sun), Katherine (Raatz), Emily (Bibb) and Colleen played in the waves with inner tubes.

The Glue group had practice at the pool. The structure was similar to the other afternoon workouts we have had including a dryland piece, a body awareness section and a swimming section. They set off at 9:45 a.m. and arrived back to Waikiki around 2:45 p.m. They had a long, strenuous day, so they spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing, in and out of the sun.

The most exciting part of today was the team dinner we had together at Shorebirds Restaurant. It is located at the end of the strip along Waikiki Beach and is right on the beachfront. We started the evening by taking our annual team picture on the beach with the sun set as our backdrop. Once we moved inside we selected our meat of choice for the 'grill your own' barbeque. There was also an extravagant salad bar, which we took full advantage of.

After the gigantic meal, the Bears rolled home to bed and to ready for another action-packed day in Hawaii!
