Golden Bears Set to Face SMU and Tulsa to Open Dual Season

BERKELEY - The California men's tennis team will open the 2010 dual season with a match against No. 68 SMU at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. on Saturday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m. CT. The Golden Bears will remain in Oklahoma to face host No. 34 Tulsa in a 1 p.m. CT match on Sunday, Jan. 17. Cal is ranked No. 40 in the nation and boasts a singles lineup that features three ranked players. Junior Jonathan Dahan is No. 33, with junior Bozhidar Katsarov checking in at No. 98 and freshman Christoffer Konigfeldt at No. 106. Sophomore Nick Andrews doubles up his doubles rankings as he holds the No. 39 spot when paired with fellow sophomore Sky Lovill and the No. 49 position as a tandem with Konigsfeldt.
The Bears faced off with each team last season and came away with a pair of victories. Cal leads, 9-8, in the all-time series against SMU, and earned its first win over Tulsa in 2009 to trail the Golden Hurricane, 2-1, in the all-time series. The Bears will return home to host Santa Clara in a 2 p.m. PT match at the Hellman Tennis Complex on Tuesday, Jan. 26.
