Jan. 20, 2010

Women's basketball player Danielle Orsillo has been named ASU's Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 23rd. Her spectacular performances against the Oregon schools provided the Sun Devils with much needed wins as they continue to make their push up the Pac-10 standings. The sweep against the Oregon schools places ASU at 11-6 (3-3 Pac-10) as they head to play arch-rival U of A.

Danielle Orsillo averaged 18.5 points, 1.5 assists and 2.5 steals in ASU's wins over Oregon and Oregon State. She connected on 56 percent of her shots (14-25), while leading ASU in scoring in both contests. The 20 points she scored against Oregon State on Saturday came within one point of matching her career high. Orsillo has averaged 18.7 points and hit 57 percent of her shots (21-37) and 80 percent of her free throws (12-15) during ASU's current 3-game winning streak. She was part of a defensive effort on Thursday which held the Ducks, who came into the game leading the nation in scoring, 19 points below their average.
