Dykes Takes Head Post at Louisiana Tech

Jan. 20, 2010

University of Arizona offensive coordinator Sonny Dykes was introduced this evening in Ruston, La., as the new head coach at Louisiana Tech.

Dykes leaves the UA after three seasons, marked by considerable offensive consistency and a spread attack, including a 2007-08 span that saw quarterback Willie Tuitama set nearly all single-game, season and career passing records.

UA head coach Mike Stoops was out of town recruiting on Wednesday and unavailable for comment. He -- and now Dykes as head of his own program -- face less than two weeks of final work in completing recruiting classes for national signing date Feb. 3.

Dykes, 40, has been a football coach for 17 years and takes the reins for the first time at Louisiana Tech. He has been an offensive coordinator for the past five seasons, including 2005-06 at Texas Tech.
