BERKELEY – The No. 2 Arizona women’s swimming and diving team fell today to No. 5 California in a dual meet in Berkeley, Calif., 165-134. The loss, the UA women’s second straight, drops their record to 7-2.

The day began with Arizona’s “B” relay team winning the 200 medley relay with Justine Schluntz, Annie Chandler, Ana Agy and Leone Vorster taking the race in 1:40.69.

In the 1000 freestyle, Alyssa Anderson, Joni Keith and Susana Helms finished second, third and fourth, respectively, but could not overtake Cal’s Lauren Boyle for the win.

The Cats showcased its depth in the 100 backstroke, sweeping the top four spots with Agy winning the race in 53.77 followed by teammates Jenny Forster, Andrea Boritzke, and Hannah Ross.

Annie Chandler won her “main event”, the 100 breaststroke. Chandler topped Cal’s Caitlin Leverenz with a time of 1:01.38. 

In the 200 butterfly, Alyssa Anderson won with a time of 1:57.76 to outpace Cal’s Sara Isakovic and Amanda Sims. 

Forster took home the title in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:58.25.  She was followed by teammates Ross, Caitlin Iversen and Erin Campbell who finished second, third and fourth, respectively.  

In diving action, Ainsley Oliver placed second to Cal’s Molly Hayes in the one-meter event with a score of 2:58.63.  Oliver placed third in the three-meter event with a score of 258.90. 

To close the afternoon, Arizona’s 200 freestyle relay team of Schluntz, Vorster, Emma Darlington and Agy recorded a time of 1:32.42 to finish runner-up to Cal’s foursome who had a time of 1:31.91.

Next week, the Cats will host No. 3 Texas at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center for a two-day meet over Jan. 29-30.  Friday, Jan. 29, will also mark Senior Day with events beginning at 2 p.m.
