Women's Tennis Cancels Cal Winter Invitational

BERKELEY - The 2010 Cal Winter Invitational has been cancelled due to rain and forecasted inclement weather conditions, head coach Amanda Augustus announced Saturday, Jan. 23. There will be no makeup date for the annual round-robin tournament. Instead, the Golden Bears will open home dual matches as hosts of the 2010 ITA Kick-Off Weekend, Friday-Saturday, Jan. 29-30, at the Hellman Tennis Complex.

No. 2-ranked Cal (1-0) will take on No. 62 Utah (0-0) in an 11 a.m. PT match on Jan. 29; followed by a 2 p.m. bout between No. 60 Colorado (1-1) and No. 58 Sacramento State (0-0). The winners will face each other in a 2 p.m. match on Sunday, Jan. 30, for the right to advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Madison, Wis., Feb. 12-15.

Cal's lineup boasts three ranked singles players including No. 2-ranked sophomore Jana Juricova. Junior Marina Cossou holds the No. 10 ranking and junior Mari Andersson is ranked No. 83. The Bears do not have a ranked doubles team.
