Jan. 25, 2010
Sophomore forward/guard Jasmine Dixon (Long Beach, CA/Long Beach Poly HS) of the UCLA women's basketball team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Jan. 19-24.
Dixon led UCLA to a weekend road sweep at the Washington schools, averaging 24.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while shooting a whopping 75% from the field. Dixon had career-highs in scoring in each game, totaling 23 points on 9-of-10 shooting at WSU and then upping that number at UW with 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field. In the WSU game, she scored 17 points in the second half and made a basket at 1:18 to reclaim the advantage after the Cougars had taken the lead for the first time in the game 12 seconds earlier. In the Washington game, Dixon came up big with a team season-high 25 points, a game-high nine rebounds and a 7-of-11 performance at the foul line (she entered the game with a .433 FT%) while playing a career-high 35 minutes. She had three points in a 7-0 run late in the game that broke a 52-52 tie and put the Bruins ahead for good. Dixon leads the Bruins in scoring (14.7), rebounding (8.0) and steals (2.3).
This is Dixon's second UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.
