Washington's Nedunchezhiyan and Chan Named Pac-10 Men's and Women's Tennis Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- WASHINGTON junior Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and junior Venise Chan have been named Pac-10 Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week for Jan. 18-24, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Nedunchezhiyan, of Chennai, India, helped the Husky men improve to 4-0 on the season with wins over Portland, 7-0, and UC Irvine, 6-1, last week. Playing in the No. 1 singles position, Nedunchezhiyan defeated Portland's Filip Zivkovic i (7-6 (5), 7-5) and UC Irvine's Fabian Matthews (6-0, 6-3) both in straight sets. Teaming up with FR Kyle McMorrow, the duo went 2-0 in the No. 2 doubles position, beating PU's Bryan Thorp/Daniel Coelho, 8-3, and UCI's Sam Gould/Steven Henderson of, 8-2.
This marks the third-career weekly honor for Nedunchezhiyan and the seventh all-time Player of the Week selection for the Washington men.
Chan helped the Huskies to a pair of wins over BYU and Utah. Against the Cougars, No. 11 Chan defeated 54th-ranked McCall Jones in straight sets at the No. 1 singles position (6-4, 6-4). Against the Utes, She played at the the Hong Kong, China native, Chan teamed with SO Samantha Smith to defeat BYU's Kristina Doerr/Romina Nedakovic duo, 8-1. Against Utah, Chan/Smith beat Anastasia Putilina/Paige Miles, 8-6.
This is the third-career weekly honor for Chan and the fourth overall Player of the Week selection for the Washington women.
