LOS ANGELES - After having its first two matches postponed due to rain, the No. 12 UCLA women's tennis team finally saw its dual-match season get underway on Wednesday, dispatching of local rival Pepperdine, 5-0 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
After claiming the doubles point, UCLA received singles wins from Yasmin Schnack, Andrea Remynse, Noelle Hickey and Carling Seguso. Remynse, ranked No. 41 nationally in singles, had the best performance of the day, losing just one game en route to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Ali Walters at court No. 2.
Playing in her first dual match as a Bruin, Hickey was also a straight-set winner on Wednesday, dispatching of Anamika Bhargava, 6-4, 6-4 at court No. 3.
With another match between the two teams possibly this weekend, both coaches agreed to suspend the matches after a winner was determined.
UCLA and Pepperdine will be in action again at the Los Angeles Tennis Center this Friday and Saturday, with the two teams taking part in ITA Kickoff Weekend. The event serves as qualifying for next month's ITA National Team Indoors.
