Jan. 27, 2010
SEATTLE - The Washington men's soccer program will host a two-day coaches clinic, Feb. 20-21, featuring head coach Dean Wurzberger, who recently received his UEFA A Coaching License, along with new assistant coach and former MLS star Brandon Prideaux, among others.
The 16th Annual Husky Coaches Clinic features six field sessions and four lecture and discussion sessions with Wurzberger, Prideaux, UW goalkeeper coach Aron Hyde and Washington State Youth Soccer Director of Coaching Gary White.
The clinic will begin Saturday, Feb. 20 with check in at 8:30 a.m. in the Assembly Room of Bank of America Arena. The first lecture will then take place with Wurzberger discussing what the training sessions of Everton FC and Barcelona FC can offer the high school coach. At 11 a.m., Prideaux will lead the first field session in the Dempsey Indoor Practice Facility on pressing and defending principles in the midfield.
Following lunch, Wurzberger will lecture on tips and strategies for maximizing the short pre-season training period, followed by three field sessions, including 'training for twin strikers' by White, 'combination play in the attacking third' by Wurzberger and 'touch, shape and mobility training for your goalkeepers' by Hyde.
Day two begins with Wurzberger giving a review of the recent MLK Day coaches clinic with Richard Bate, the English FA Director of Elite Coaching Courses, former English Youth National Team coach and former Technical Director of Watford FC. Hyde will then lecture on tips and strategies for coaching the field players and goalkeepers together before the clinic ends with two field sessions: 'Drills and games to improve your team's scoring effectiveness' by Prideaux and 'Coaching the GK and the defense to be more effective and dealing with crosses' by Hyde.
Cost for the clinic is $125 for advance registration and $135 at the door.
