Jan. 27, 2010
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State baseball team is ranked 25th in the Baseball America preseason Top 25 poll, released Wednesday by the media publication.
For the Beavers, it is their second top 25 ranking in the preseason. Previously, OSU had been ranked 10th by Collegiate Baseball.
Oregon State is one of three Pacific-10 Conference schools ranked in the top 25. Arizona State is No. 14 while UCLA is 23rd.
Baseball America has Texas at No. 1, Virginia at No. 2 and LSU third. Fourth-ranked Cal State Fullerton and No. 5 Rice round out the top five.
It is the second consecutive year Baseball America has rated the Beavers as the nation's No. 25 club in its preseason rankings.
The Beavers return more than 20 letterwinners from last season's team. Among the letterwinners returning is freshman All-American Sam Gaviglio, who went 10-1 last season and who has been named to the NCBWA All-America preseason second team. All-Pac-10 honorable mention selections Adalberto Santos, Tyler Waldron, Jared Norris and Kevin Rhoderick also return.
Other returnees for the Beavers include 2009 starters Stefen Romero, Rob Folsom, John Tommasini and Michael Miller as well as pitchers Josh Osich, Greg Peavey, Tanner Robles, Kraig Sitton, Ryan Gorton and James Nygren.
In addition, the Oregon State recruiting class for this season, which includes Andrew Susac, Danny Hayes, Tyler Smith and Tony Bryant, among a whole host of other signees, was ranked 22nd by Baseball America in late October.
The Beavers will open the 2010 season on Feb. 19 when starting a four-game series at Hawaii. Make sure to visit osubeavers.com for more information on the Beavers as the season draws closer.
