Bruins Third in Pac-10 Preseason Poll, Top 10 in NFCA and USA Softball National Rankings

The preseason Pac-10 and national rankings were announced this week and the Bruins found themselves voted third by the conference coaches, sixth in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll and eighth in the USA Today/NFCA rankings.
The Bruins earned one first-place vote and 37 points in the Pac-10 Preseason Coaches Poll. Washington received the other seven first-place votes and 49 points to finish first, while Arizona was second with 41 points. Arizona State and Stanford tied for fourth with 26 points, California was sixth (25), Oregon was seventh (11) and Oregon State was eighth (9).
UCLA received 558 points in placing eighth in the preseason NFCA rankings and 396 points, as well as one first-place vote, in the USA Softball poll. Thirteen of the 25 teams in the preseason polls are on the Bruins' schedule, including three during the opening weekend (Michigan, Georgia and Tennessee).
The Bruins, ranked sixth in the preseason ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 poll and eighth in the USA Today/NFCA rankings, open up the 2010 season at Dot Richardson's National Collegiate Softball Invitational in Clermont, Fla. (Feb. 12-14). UCLA faces #7 Georgia (2 p.m. PT) and UCF (4 p.m.) on Feb. 12, Florida Atlantic (10 a.m.) and #16 Tennessee (12 p.m.) on Feb. 13 and third-ranked Michigan on Feb. 14 at 6 a.m. PT.
