Post Game Quotes: Jan. 28 vs Arizona
Jan. 28, 2010
Head Coach Joanne Boyle
'I just thought it was a great game for us. The biggest thing is coming out and starting off hot. I felt the first couple minutes of the first half and the second half we were a little (cold), but other than that, I thought the kids game planned. I thought they executed everything pretty well. They did a great job on the boards. Lexi has been the hot hand for us. We're going to her until... that changes. I thought (Rachelle Federico) stepped up in a big way. I thought Talia Caldwell did a great job defensively. Natasha is coming along. I thought everyone played their role and did a little more. As long as Lexi is hot, we are going to get her the ball.'
On what has been different about Alexis Gray-Lawson lately
'I don't know. There has been this shift, a little bit. You just see it in her. You know how you see athletes, and you can just see the confidence in gamesI think, too, that she has been practicing that way. It is carrying over to games now. You get a couple of practices like that and it is easier to shift it over into games.'
'I think she is scoring in different ways. We used to tell her that she needed to get to the rim a little bit more. She was purely a jump shooter. Now she is drawing fouls. She has her pull-up working. The confidence has elevated her game. She wasn't using screens and coming off screens before, so it was so much harder for her. She had to create things on her own. Now she is setting herself up and giving herself easier looks. You hit a couple of shots, and you start figuring your game out a little bit. And she is using it in a variety of ways.'
Senior guard Alexis Gray Lawson
On when she knew she was having a hot night
'I actually didn't. Honestly. When the game first started, I was just trying to stay aggressive. I wasn't feeling too well (has been suffering from a mild head cold the last three days). So I was trying to stay aggressive to be more focused than usual. It just sort of happened that way.'
'I have been working more on some stuff. Me and coach have talked about setting up some screens and people playing me a little bit different and how to adjust to that. I've been learning how to do that on film and then out on the court.'
'Ive been working on coming off screens, especially double screens, and setting my player up a little more. I've been working on curling off screens and setting my feet up a little bit more.'
'I am trying to be a complete player and not just an offensive threat. I have to step up on defense. I had a hard assignment. I had to guard Davelynn (White). I was creating tough-touches for her and then on the opposite end being aggressive offensively. I was just trying to do a little bit of everything.'
'I was trying to make sure she (Davelynn White) never had a rhythm. When you are a freshman, you tend to be a rhythm player. So I was just trying to get her out of her rhythm.'
