Red-Hot Prugh Keeps Rolling

LA JOLLA, Calif. -- Alex Prugh, fresh off a fifth-place finish in the Bob Hope Classic, picked up where he left off on Thursday at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, Calif. The Spokane-native shot a 5-under 67 in the first round of the Farmers Insurance Open and is tied with nine others for seventh place.
Playing on the north course at the famed Torrey Pines Golf Course, Prugh teed off on the 10th hole and promptly birdied to get off on the right foot. He would go on to birdie three more holes to make the turn at 4-under 32.
Prugh kept on rolling, converting birdies on No. 1 and No. 2 to drop 6-under. He came back to earth on No. 3 with his first bogey on the Par-3 hole and added another bogey on No. 6 to fall to 4-under. Prugh showed his mettle though, birdying No. 9 to enter the clubhouse with a 67.
Scott Piercy shot a 8-under 64 to hold a one-stroke lead over four golfers.
Prugh will tee off for Friday's second round at 9:10 a.m. on the South Course.
