Jan. 28, 2010
STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford sophomore forward Nnemkadi Ogwumike, the Pac-10's leading scorer and shooter, was named as one of seven players added to the State Farm Wade Watch List, the WBCA and the State Farm Wade Trophy Committee announced Thursday.
Ogwumike joins Cardinal teammates Jayne Appel, Kayla Pedersen and Jeanette Pohlen on the State Farm Wade Watch List. Along with Ogwumike, the committee also added Dawn Evans (James Madison), Kelsey Griffin (Nebraska), Lyndsay Schrader (Notre Dame), Shekinna Stricklen (Tennessee), Bianca Thomas (Ole Miss) and Jasmine Thomas (Duke) to the list.
Through the first 18 games of the season, Ogwumike has burst onto the national scene as she leads the Pac-10 in scoring (19.5 ppg) and field goal percentage (64.2), and is second in rebounding (10.7 rpg).
Ogwumike has scored at least 20 points in a game on 11 occasions this season, and most recently turned in the best performance of her career, netting career highs of 30 points and 23 rebounds in Stanford's 100-80 victory over the Oregon Ducks in Eugene, Ore. this past Saturday, Jan. 23. Her 23 rebounds also marked the new Stanford single-game record, breaking Nicole Powell's eight-year-old mark of 21.
A sampling of Ogwumike's top efforts so far this season include a 20-point, 8-for-10 shooting and six-rebound performance against No. 1 Connecticut in Hartford on Dec. 23, a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double against then-No. 3 Tennessee on Dec. 19, and a 29-point, 13-rebound game against Gonzaga on Nov. 29.
Ogwumike, a three-time Pac-10 Player of the Week selection this season, will return to the court Thursday night, Jan. 28 as second-ranked Stanford hosts the Arizona State Sun Devils at Maples Pavilion.
