Arizona's Wise Named Pac-10 Men's Basketball Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Commissioner Larry Scott announced today that ARIZONA senior guard Nic Wise has been named the Pac-10 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 25-31.
Wise, of Houston, Texas, led Arizona to its first Conference sweep of the season with wins over STANFORD and CALIFORNIA by averaging 22.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists. For the weekend, he connected on 50 percent (5-for-10) from behind the arc and 90.5 percent (19-for-21) from the charity stripe.
In Thursday’s 76-68 win over the Cardinal, Wise went 10-for-12 from the free throw line as he finished with 14 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. In Saturday’s victory over the Golden Bears, the senior guard tied a career-high with 30 points, including 19 in the second half, on 8-for-16 (50 percent) shooting from the field to go with three rebounds and three steals. For Wise, it was his second 30-point outing of the season.
For the season, Wise ranks among the Pac-10 leaders in many statistical categories, including eighth in scoring (16.0 ppg), seventh in assists (3.76), second in free throw percentage (90 percent), third in steals (1.90 spg) and sixth in assist:turnover ratio (1.76).
This is the second weekly honor for Wise and Arizona’s Conference leading 76th all-time Player of the Week.
