Feb. 1, 2010
Freshman forward Markel Walker (Philadelphia, PA/Schenley HS) of the UCLA women's basketball team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Jan. 25-31.
Walker recorded a pair of double-doubles as UCLA swept the weekend series against the Oregon schools. She also added four steals and just one turnover in 25 minutes of action. In the 70-44 win over Oregon State, Walker led all players with 16 points and had 10 rebounds, six on the offensive end. Walker shot 12-21 from the field over the two games and was 9-for-10 from the line. She leads the Bruins in rebounding with an 8.2 average and in steals with 40.
