Stanford's Klahn and Washington's Dy Named Pac-10 Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week

Feb. 2, 2010

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- STANFORD sophomore Bradley Klahn and WASHINGTON sophomore Denise Dy have been named Pac-10 Men’s and Women’s Tennis Players of the Week for Jan. 25-31, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.

Klahn, of Poway, Calif., won both singles and doubles matches over the weekend helping the Cardinal earn a berth to the National Team Indoor Championships in mid-February with wins over Oklahoma and UNC Wilmington. In Stanford’s 7-0 win over Oklahoma, Klahn upset No. 10 Andrei Daescu in straight sets (6-2, 7-6 (11)). A day earlier, he defeated UNC Wilmington’s Michael Pereira (6-3, 6-0). Teaming with SO Ryan Thacher, the duo went 2-0 in the No. 1 doubles position, beating UNCW’s Pereira/Ryan Ybarra, 8-3, and OU’s Ionut Beleleu/Costin Pultr duo, 8-2.

This marks the second-career weekly honor for Klahn and the sixth all-time Player of the Week selection for the Stanford men.

Dy, the third-ranked singles players in the country, did not lose a set in singles or doubles this weekend as Washington upset No. 16 South Carolina, 4-3. Even though the Huskies fell to 18th-ranked Arkansas, the San Jose, Calif., native easily won at the No. 2 position defeating the Razorbacks Stephanie Roy (6-1, 6-1). Against the Gamecocks, Dy’s 6-1, 6-3 win over Dijana Stojic at the No. 2 position was the only match not to go three sets. Dy teamed with SR Joyce Ardies to defeat the Razorbacks’ duo of Anouk Tigu/Claudine Paulson, 8-6. Against USC, Dy/Ardies beat Dijana Stojic/Mariga Zubori, 8-2.

This is the first-career weekly honor for Dy and the fifth overall Player of the Week selection for the Washington women.
