Danielle Orsillo Named ASU Female Athlete of the Week

Feb. 3, 2010

Women's basketball player Danielle Orsillo has been named ASU's Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 6th. Her solid performance against California, which included the game-winning shot, lifted the Sun Devils to a 63-61 road win. The win allowed the Sun Devils to earn a split in the Bay Area road trip. The Sun Devils will return home this weekend to face the Washington schools, with their eyes set on moving up the conference standings.

Orsillo averaged 13.5 points and 2.0 rebounds as ASU went 1-1 over its weekend trip to the Bay Area. After a tough night on Thursday at Stanford in which she failed to score in double figures for only the third time this season, she came back on Saturday at Cal and tied her season high with 20 points, including the game-winner with five-tenths of a second left. The emotional finish came after the Sun Devils made a furious comeback from down 10 with 4:30 left. The win snapped California's five-game winning streak and it now places the Sun Devils at 13-7 (5-4 in Pac-10 play), which has them tied for fourth in the conference.
