Feb. 3, 2010
Men's basketball player Ty Abbott has been named ASU's Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 6th. Abbott continued his strong play, giving the Sun Devils a split over the Bay Area schools. Over the past seven games Junior Ty Abbott is averaging 18.6 points and 7.0 rebounds and is 28-of-57 (.438) from the three-point stripe in that time. Abbott and the Sun Devils look to continue their rise to first in the Pac-10 as they head to face the Washington schools.
This past weekend, Ty Abbott recorded his second career double-double with 29 points and career-high 12 boards vs. Stanford in 88-70 win. All of Abbott's rebounds were defensive and they were the most by a Sun Devil since Jeff Pendergraph had 12 at No. 13 Oregon on Feb. 18, 2007, a span of the past 99 games. The junior from Phoenix, Ariz. recorded his season-high in points with 29, which is his third 20-point game of the season. Abbott's dominating performances which included averages of 24.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists a game, allowed ASU to capture a split over the Bay Area schools. The Sun Devils are now 15-7 (5-4 in Pac-10) and 1 game out of first place. ASU is now 33-9 (.786) when Abbott scores in double-digits, including 21-5 (.808) in the past two seasons.
