Post Game Quotes: Feb. 4 vs USC
Feb. 4, 2010
Head Coach Joanne Boyle
'I am just really happy and excited to position ourselves to move forward. I think the kids grew a lot in the game, especially in the last five minutes. I think we did a much better job understanding that piece of the puzzle (closing out games). I am just proud of everything. Our rebounding. Coming back in the second half with our rebounding. Our defense. Our pressing. Even offensively, moving the ball better.'
'We always want to be in balance (in scoring). I thought this was a great game of balance. (Gray-Lawson) was 3-for-9. There are games when she is only going to take nine shots. More than likely, she'll take more than that in a game. But, because of that, I thought we got more people in the flow today. And that is never a bad thing. I think we just have to figure out those pieces as we move forward.'
'I thought DeNesha did a great job of kicking the ball out tonight. It is really hard to do that. She always found the right person.'
'Talia's freethrows were huge. She lives in the gym trying to get better at that, so I was very happy to see that pay off for her.'
'That is just gut check time, coming up with a rebound off of a freethrow. Finding a way to get the rebound. And she just has an instinct. She knew how important those were. And she did the right thing and kicked them back out instead of trying to do too much. It was huge for us. Huge!'
Freshman forward DeNesha Stallworth
On what she expected from this game after scoring 30 points the first time she played USC
'I sort of expected the double and the triple teams. So I knew I just had to be patient when I got the ball on the block. I noticed when they said 'green' or 'go', they were coming to triple team me, so then I wouldn't make a move. I would just kick it out to Layshia. When people were coming at me, I found my open guards and they made the big shots.'
'They weren't really double or tripling me in the first half, so I had a lot more one-on-one moves.'
'Watching Ashley (Walker) and Dev(anei Hampton) on film has really helped me.'
Frehman guard Layshia Clarendon
'For me personally, I have just been trying to find my shot, take good shots, not when you are tired. We don't really care who scores the points. Whoever is on that day, we are going to get them more touches. Whoever is scoring, we are going to figure out a way to get them the ball more.'
'When we went to our press, they got more rushed. The threw some balls away. We got momentum going, and our fans going. I think there was just good play calling and coaching at the end.'
