Talisa Rhea, Kirsten Tilleman Named To ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 8 Second Team
Feb. 4, 2010
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State junior guard Talisa Rhea and sophomore forward Kirsten Tilleman have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII Second Team, the organization CoSIDA announced on Thursday.
CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) selects all-academic teams in 12 different sports throughout the year. Student-athletes must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.3 and be a starter or significant reserve. They must also be at least sophomores. Each district is then voted upon by sports information directors in their region and those student-athletes who earned first-team status are eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
Rhea, who majors in exercise and sport science, was named to the second team after capturing a 3.53 cumulative grade point average through the end of fall term. It is her second Academic All-District 8 Second-Team selection.
Rhea is currently on a 12-game streak with at least 10 points. She is averaging 17.6 points per game, and has been in the top five in scoring in the Pacific-10 Conference all season. Rhea is 13 three-pointers away from tying the program record of 178 held by Felicia Ragland.
Rhea also became the 16th player in school history to hit 1,000 career points, doing so in January against Stanford. She currently has 1,093 for her career, placing her 12th in school history.
Tilleman, meanwhile, earned the recognition after garnering a 3.96 cumulative GPA while majoring in natural resources.
Tilleman has ranked in the top 10 in the Pac-10 this season in rebounding all year, and currently ranks seventh at 7.4 per game. She is averaging 9.0 points per game, which is third on the team, and the Bozeman, Mont., native has a team-leading three double doubles in 2009-10.
Tilleman is the third player to earn an all-district honor during head coach LaVonda Wagner's tenure at Oregon State. Mandy Close was named to the All-District 8 Third Team in 2005-06, her senior year, while Rhea was selected to the second team in 2008-09.
