Washington's Pondexter Named Pac-10 Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Feb. 8, 2010
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Commissioner Larry Scott announced today that WASHINGTON senior forward Quincy Pondexter has been named the Pac-10 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 1-7.
Pondexter, who hails from Fresno, Calif., joins Ed O’Bannon (UCLA), Gary Payton (OSU), Chris Mills (Arizona) and Eddie House (ASU) as the only men’s basketball players to earn four Pac-10 Player of the Weeks in a single season. Pondexter did so by averaging 23.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in wins over Arizona and Arizona State.
In Thursday’s 81-75 win over the Wildcats, Pondexter scored 30 points, his third 30-plus point game of the season, and pulled down 12 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the year. He also dished out three assists and had one block. In Saturday’s 79-56 victory over the Sun Devils, he tallied 17 points, seven rebounds and three assists. For the weekend, the senior forward was 16-for-28 (57 percent) from the floor, including 14-for-20 (70 percent) from the free throw line.
For the season, Pondexter ranks among the Pac-10 leaders in many statistical categories including third in scoring (20.6 ppg) and rebounding (8.3 rpg), fifth in free throw percentage (82 percent) and field goal percentage (55 percent) and eighth in steals (1.43 spg).
This is the fourth weekly honor for Pondexter this season, fourth overall, and Washington’s 37th all-time Player of the Week.
