WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- CALIFORNIA freshman Christoffer Konigsfeldt and STANFORD senior Lindsay Burdette have been named Pac-10 Men’s and Women’s Tennis Players of the Week for Feb. 1-7, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Konigsfeldt of Rungsted Kyst, Denmark, led the Golden Bears to a pair of victories over ranked opponents then-No. 46 Fresno State and No. 40 Hawai’i. In California’s 4-3 win over the Bulldogs, Konigsfeldt defeated FSU’s Rikus de Villiers (7-5, 3-6, 6-3) at the No. 2 singles position. Against Hawai’i, he bounced back to win 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 after dropping the first set to Andreas Weber. Teaming with SO Nick Andrews, the duo went 2-0 in the No. 2 doubles position, upsetting FSU’s 20th-ranked pair of Taylor Leiby/Mirko Zapletal, 7-6 (4), and UH’s Leo Rosenberg/Jeremy Tweedt duo, 8-4.
This marks the first-career weekly honor for Konigsfeldt and the seventh all-time Pac-10 Player of the Week selection for the California men.
Burdette, a native of Jackson, Ga., had a pair of indivdual victories over nationally-ranked opponents helping the Cardinal to victories over TCU and Texas. In Stanford’s 6-1 win over TCU, Burdette defeated No. 67 Kayla Duncan (6-1, 6-1) at the No. 2 singles position. In a 5-2 victory over Texas, she defeated No. 27 Krista Damico 6-3, 6-4. Burdette teamed with JR Hilary Barte to defeat TCU’s duo of Duncan/Nina Munch-Soegaard (8-2). Then against the Longhorns’, Burdette/Barte beat No. 27 Amanda Craddock/Krista Damico (8-3).
This is the first-career weekly honor for Burdette and the ninth overall Pac-10 Player of the Week selection for the Stanford women.
