Women's Track to Send Two to Husky Classic
Feb. 10, 2010
Corvallis, Ore. – The Oregon State women’s track team will be sending two to the Husky Classic, hosted by Washington, to compete in the indoor mile on Saturday.
The two-day event begins on Friday in the Dempsey Indoor, and along with six Oregon State football players, junior Abby Chesimet (Astoria, Ore.) and redshirt sophomore Laura Carlyle (Kelowna, British Columbia) will be racing.
“We’re excited for both Abby and Laura,” head coach Kelly Sullivan said. “They had solid opening races two weeks ago, and we want them to have another shot at improving their times, while getting in another really solid field to go along with the training they are doing right now.”
Sophomore Casey Masterson (Eugene, Ore.) holds the school record in the mile, finishing in 4:51.87 last season, while Carlyle posted the second fastest time in school history at the Washington Invitational on January 30, finishing in 4:55.95. Chesimet’s time of 5:02.14 was the fifth fastest in the record books.
The Washington Invitational is the second of three meets that Oregon State will be competing in at Dempsey Indoor at the University of Washington. The Beavers will return on Saturday, Mar. 6, for the Washington Last Chance Qualifier.
