Teeing it Up With Rebecca Durham
Feb. 11, 2010
STANFORD, Calif. - Rebecca Durham arrived at Stanford as a freshman in the fall of 2007 and made an immediate contribution to the women's golf program. Rebecca grew up in the beach and golf community of St. Simons Island, Georgia and decided to pursue her collegiate career at Stanford after just one visit to campus.
Last summer, Rebecca won the Georgia Top 60 Women's Classic at Reynolds Landing Golf Course in Greensboro, Georgia, firing a final round of 71 in stormy conditions to claim the title. She played in all three of Stanford's fall events and carded a stroke average 74.5, which was the second best mark on the team.
Described as the 'most tenacious player on the team' by head coach Caroline O'Connor, Rebecca remembers hitting a perfect nine iron to within three feet on a par-3 hole, drawing the applause of Davis Love III and Fred Couples.
A psychology major, Rebecca is a fan of all sports, especially tennis and college football and misses a nice, cold glass of sweet tea once in awhile.

Senior year high school nationals when I sunk an eight foot putt on the first play off hole to win the title.
What's your most memorable shot?
When I was 12, I was playing with my dad at our home course. We were on a par three that had a peninsula green. I hit a perfect nine iron three feet from the hole. After finishing the shot I heard clapping in the back ground. On the adjacent hole, Davis Love III, Freddie Couples, and two other guys were applauding my shot. I hadn't seen them before I hit the shot, which was probably best.

Generally I just use whatever I can find in my bag

Why did you decide to come to Stanford?
There's simply no place like it. I had my heart set on Virginia until I stepped onto this campus. One tour and I knew this was where I wanted to be. It's been an amazing three years and the best decision of my entire life.
Tell us about your major?
I'm a psychology major and really enjoy the social aspects of the field. I also enjoy taking sociology classes that emphasize education and gender.

The Oval and the 18th tee box at the Stanford Course, which offers the best view on campus.
What are some of your interests other than golf?
I enjoy tennis, eating, hanging out with friends, watching any kind of athletic event-- especially college football -- watching movies, and sleeping.
Do you have any superstitions?
No, I played golf long enough to have every superstition fall through. Either you play well or you don't.
Tie between Gladiator and Forrest Gump
What's on your IPOD?
Almost anything but there's a lot of country (Sugarland, Toby Keith, Tim McGraw).
Double cheeseburger with ketchup, a side of fries, and a chocolate shake to wash it down.
