California Earns Road Victory Over WSU

The California Golden Bears opened up their Washington roadtrip with a 62-44 victory over the Washington State Cougars Friday night in Pullman. Alexis Gray-Lawson led the Bears with 19 points.
The Bears built up a solid lead in the first half by going on an 11-2 run, extending a modest 15-9 lead to a 26-11 advantage. Senior guard Alexis Gray-Lawson led the charge for the Bears, scoring 13 first-half points, including six during their run. Gray-Lawson also had four of the Bears 11 first-half steals. The Bears forced 16 Cougar turnovers in the first half, scoring more than half of their points (18) off of those turnovers.
In the second half, the Bears scored nine straight points, including five points in a 20-second span, to extend the lead to 44-23 with 13:45 remaining in the half. The Cougars went on a run of their own, pulling with 8, 52-44, with 3:56 remaining, but it was as close as they would come. The Bears held on for their seventh Conference victory of the season.
Cal's bench, led by freshman center Talia Caldwell, had a strong game. Caldwell finished the game with 12 points, her sixth double-digit scoring game of the season.
The victory was Cal's 11th consecutive victory over the Washington State Cougars. The Bears record improves to 13-10 overall and 7-5 in the Pac-10. Cal concludes the road trip on Sunday afternoon with a Valentine's Day game against the Washington Huskies in Seattle. The game will tip at 2:00 p.m. and will be carried live on Fox Sports Net and can be viewed locally on Comcast Bay Area.
