No. 9 Stanford Suffers First Loss Of Season At ITA Team Indoors

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- No. 8 Texas defeated No. 9 Stanford 4-0 on Friday afternoon in a round of 16 matchup at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Charlottesville, Va.

The Cardinal (4-1) suffered its first loss of the year and will next face No. 30 Fresno State on Saturday at 9 a.m. PT in the consolation bracket.

Seeded No. 11 in last year's tourney, Stanford knocked off No. 7 Florida 4-3 in the opening round before upsetting No. 2 Texas 4-3 the following day. The Cardinal then fell to No. 3 Georgia 4-2 in the semifinals.

This time around, Texas (4-1) was in control from the start.

The Longhorns captured the doubles point with a win at the No. 1 spot, as Dimitar Kutrovsky and Josh Zavala stunned the nation's top-ranked team of Bradley Klahn and Ryan Thacher by an 8-6 count. Klahn and Thacher entered the match with a 16-2 overall record.

Jean Anderson topped Richard Wire 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 4 position to secure the shutout.
