Carlyle Breaks School Record, Winning Mile at Husky Classic
Feb. 13, 2010
Seattle, Wash. – Redshirt sophomore Laura Carlyle (Kelowna, British Columbia) set a new school record for the indoor mile, while winning the overall race at the Husky Classic on Saturday afternoon.
“I’m proud of Laura today, setting a new personal record and setting the school record,” head coach Kelly Sullivan said. “Overall today was a good day for our runners.”
Carlyle posted a 4:50.90 finish, edging out Roxanne Sellick of Fresno State by .65 both in her section and overall. Her time sets the new school record, previously held by sophomore Casey Masterson (Eugene, Ore.), who finished in 4:51.87 last season. Carlyle shaved off more than five seconds off her last mile run in the Washington Invitational on January 30.
Also competing was junior Abby Chesimet (Astoria, Ore.), who finished in 5:06.72, good for 26th overall.
Oregon State heads back up to Washington for the third time for the Washington Last Chance on Saturday, March 6, while another portion of the team will compete against Portland in McMinnville, Ore.
