Watch UW's 1993 Thriller At Cal On Husky Classics
Feb. 14, 2010
UWTV and FSN will present one of the greatest comebacks in Washington football history this Monday night at 7:00 p.m. as part of its weekly Husky Classics, a weekly series on UWTV featuring favorite University of Washington football and basketball games.
Check out FSN's original telecast of the Oct. 9, 1993 Washington at California telecast as the Huskies roared back from a 20-point deficit to pull out a thrilling 24-23 victory.
The game was just the fifth of Jim Lambright's tenure as Husky head coach and pitted a 13th-ranked UW team vs. a 16th-ranked Cal squad, coached by former Washington offensive coordinator Keith Gilbertson.
The Bears took advantage of four interceptions and three fumbles and dominated much of the afternoon before the Huskies stormed to the win.
Down 20-3 at halftime and then 23-3 in the third quarter, Damon Huard overcame a rough first half to lead the improbable comeback. After a touchdown run from Napoleon Kaufman cut the lead to 23-10, Huard found D.J. McCarthy with a 29-yard pass with 2:06 left to make it 23-17. After Scott Greenlaw recovered an onside kick, the Dawgs completed the win when Huard hooked up with Mark Bruener for the winning score.
