Bruins Climb to Third; Trail by Four

Led by three under par rounds, UCLA climbed the leader board on Monday to third place at the Battle of the Beach at Pelican Hill GC in Newport Coast, CA.
The Bruins posted a second round score of 353 (-2) for a 36-hole total of 707 (-3) and trailed Oregon State (703, -7) by four shots entering Tuesday's final round. Sixth-ranked Washington lurked in second place, one shot behind the Beavers. Arkansas fell to fourth place at 710 (E), followed by Texas-Arlington at 715 (+5).
Sophomores Gregor Main and Alex Shi Yup Kim and freshman Pedro Figueiredo each carded sub-par rounds. Main brought his two-round total to even par 142 with a second-round score of 69 (-2) and was tied for 20th place. Figueiredo recovered from a disastrous opening round and also posted a 69 (-2). He was tied for 57th at 150 (+8). Kim was the only Bruin under par for two rounds, tied for 10th at 141 (-1) after posting a second-round 70 (-1). Freshman Pontus Widegren was tied with Main at even par 142 following a round of 72 (+1) on Tuesday and junior Connor Driscoll was tied for 36th at three-over par 145 following his second round score of 73 (+2). Mario Clemens, who fired a 68 (-3) in the opening round, shot a 76 (+5) in the second round and was tied for 33rd at 144 (+2). Freshman Bobby Lange, playing as an individual, was 79th at 155 (+13) after his round of 78 (+7).
Washington's Chris Williams took a one-shot lead after two rounds, firing a 65 (-6) for a 36-hole total of 134 (-8). First-round co-leader Mike Barry of Oregon State was second at 135 (-7) following his round of 69 (-2).
Final round action continues on Wednesday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. PST.
