Brenner Named First Softball Pac-10 Player of the Week

Walnut Creek, Calif. – Sophomore Mary Claire Brenner (Portland, Ore.) is named the first Pac-10 Player of the Week for softball for the week of February 8-14, announced Tuesday by Pac-10 Commissioner Larry Scott.
Over the weekend at the Kajikawa Classic, Brenner went 8-for-16 with six home runs and 16 RBI. She posted a 1.625 slugging percentage and .529 on base percentage. She hit at least one home run in four of the team’s five games, and broke the school record for most home runs in a single game with three against Southern Utah on Sunday.
Brenner went yard in each at bat against the Thunderbirds to finish with a perfect 3-for-3 performance with a near school record tying six RBI. She hit her home runs off of two different Southern Utah pitchers.
Against Ole Miss in the team’s season opener, Brenner nailed a three-run shot in her first at bat before following with a two-RBI single against Nevada in the second game. She followed up with another three-run long ball against Creighton before going 2-for-4 with another home run and a single against Notre Dame.
Overall on the weekend, Brenner was perfect in the field with two putouts and an assist in right field.
Last season, Brenner had 26 at bats, chalking up five hits, including two doubles, and earning only a pair of RBI. She appeared in 21 of the team’s 55 games, starting eight.
This is the first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor for Brenner, 34th for Oregon State.
