Oregon State's Brenner Named Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week; Washington's Lawrie Named Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - OREGON STATE sophomore outfielder Mary Claire Brenner was named Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week and WASHINGTON senior pitcher Danielle Lawrie was named Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Brenner, a native of Portland, Ore., had an outstanding opening weekend in 2010, belting six home runs and tallying 16 RBIs in five games, as Oregon State went 2-3 at the Kajikawa Classic. In her first at-bat of the season, Brenner cleared the left field wall for three runs in a 6-3 loss to Ole Miss. In a 5-4 loss in nine innings against Nevada, Brenner followed up with a two-run double. Against Creighton, she scored all three of the Beavers’ runs with a three-run home run in a 7-3 loss. In the following game against Notre Dame, Brenner helped the Beavers earn a 7-3 win with a home run and a single. Brenner’s biggest game of the weekend came in an 11-0 win over Southern Utah where she went 3-for-3, earning six RBI on three home runs, setting a new school record for most home runs in a single game.
Lawrie, who hails from Langley, British Columbia, started off 2010 in dominating fashion, pitching 21.0 shut-out innings, allowing just four total hits in four appearances while tallying 45 strikeouts. Her three complete-game shutouts were highlighted by a seven-inning perfect game against Auburn, the first of her career., where she struck out 16 of 21 batters she faced. Lawrie came back the next night to earn a save against Ohio and followed that up with her second shutout in an 8-0 win over Nevada. She capped off her weekend in the circle with a one-hitter against Notre Dame, striking out 13 with no walks. At the plate, Lawrie was equally as dominant, hitting four home runs in five games en route to leading the Huskies with nine RBI for the weekend. Against Cal State Northridge, Lawrie totaled a career-high six RBI, after hitting a grand slam and a two-run home run. For her efforts, Lawrie earned Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week honors.
This is the first weekly award for Brenner and the 34th overall for Oregon State. For Lawrie this is the 11th Pac-10 Player of the Week award, and the 61st overall award for Washington.
