Cal Baseball Shuts Out Southern Utah, 14-0, in Season Opener
BERKELEY, CALIF. - Freshman designated hitter Devin Rodriguez had a huge day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a grand slam and an RBI double as Cal baseball shut out visiting Southern Utah, 14-0, in the 2010 season-opener Friday, Feb. 19 at Evans Diamond. Rodriguez, from Newhall, Calif., got a single in his first collegiate at-bat in the second inning, and then helped propel the Golden Bears' eight-run third inning with a bases loaded shot over the left field fence off of Thunderbird starter Steve Johnson (3.0 inning, 13 hits, nine earned runs, one walk, one strikeout).
