Cardinal Take First Game of DH, with 11-Run Seventh
Feb. 20, 2010
STANFORD, Calif.-- In game one, Stanford scored 11 runs in the seventh and took their first series of the year, with a 14-5 win in game one of a doubleheader.
After Rice took a 4-2 lead in the top of the inning, the Cardinal went through five Rice pitchers, scoring 11 runs on nine hits, as three errors in the inning did not help the cause for the Owls. Jake Schlander doubled twice in the inning and every original batter in the inning reached based safely, as Rice pitchers also surrendered four walks in the inning.
It was the first time since the 2008 College World Series and 11 runs against Florida State that the Cardinal had reached double digits in an inning.
Michael Ratterree's second home run of the season, a three-run homer in the seventh off of reliever Danny Sandbrink gave Rice a 4-2 advantage after a Christian Griffiths two-run homer in the second gave Stanford and early 2-0 lead.
