The No. 5 USC women's golf team, battling severe rain, wind and temperatures in the 40s, finished tied for 12th after a weather-interrupted first round of the 2010 Wildcat Invitational on Monday (Feb. 22) at the Arizona National G.C. in Tucson, Ariz.
A scheduled second round on Monday was cancelled due to the poor conditions, reducing the tournament to 36 holes. The final round will begin on Tuesday (Feb. 23) at 8 a.m. MST.
The Women of Troy, who won their previous tournament (and their second of the season) at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge two weeks ago, finished the rain-shortened first round at 25-over 309, 19 shots back of No. 1 Arizona State (6-over 290). Pac-10 rivals Stanford (9-over 293) and host Arizona (10-over 294) were second and third, respectively.
Sophomore Jennifer Song was USC's low finisher of the day, but even the NCAA's No. 1 golfer had trouble in the miserable conditions Monday, finishing tied for 13th at 3-over 74. She registered 10 consecutive pars to start her round before three bogeys dropped her to 3-over on the day. Song is six back leader Taylore Karle (3-under 68) of Pepperdine.
Freshman Cyna Rodriguez, playing as in individual, is 84th at 13-over 84.
