Stanford Finishes Third at Wildcat Invitational

Feb. 23, 2010

TUCSON, Ariz. - Stanford's women's golf team braved inclement weather to finish third at the Wildcat Invitational which was hosted by the University of Arizona at the Arizona National Golf Club in Tucson.

Stanford shot a second round score of 302 (+18) today after carding a 293 in the first round to finish the event with a 36-hole team score of 595 (+27), 19 strokes behind top-ranked Arizona State (576) and just seven strokes behind second place Arizona (588).

The Cardinal finished 10 strokes ahead of second ranked Auburn (605) and was 23 strokes better than No. 5 USC (618).

Poor weather conditions shortened the tournament to 36-holes.

Freshman Sally Watson tied for 10th in the individual competition after shooting a four-over 75 today after yesterday's even par round of 71. Watson had one birdie on her card to go along with three bogies and one double bogey. It marked her third top-10 finish of the year.

Watson finished 10 strokes behind medalist Caroline Hedwall of Oklahoma State, who finished with a six-under 136 for the 36-holes. Hedwall fired a brilliant five-under 66 in the final round to claim the individual title.

Junior Rebecca Durham turned in another solid performance, finishing tied for 12th with a 36-hole score of 147 on rounds of 74 and 73.

Freshman Kristina Wong shot a seven over par 78 today after carding a 72 yesterday and finished tied for 22nd.

Angela King (76-76-152) and Lila Barton (78-78-156) finished tied for 34 and 50th, respectively.

Sophomore Sydney Burlison, playing as an individual, finished tied for 77th at 163 (75-88).

Stanford will be back in action next week at the Bruin-Wave Invitational, a 54-hole tournament that gets underway on Monday at the Moorpark Country Club in Malibu.
