Swimming & Diving Set To Compete At Pac-10 Championships

Feb. 23, 2010

The post-season begins this week for the swimming and diving team as the Pac-10 Championships are on tap. The swimming portion of the meet will take place Wednesday through Saturday in Long Beach, CA (Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool), while the diving events will be contested Thursday through Saturday in Federal Way, WA.

The Bruins have several athletes who will vie for conference crowns this weekend. On the swimming side, Brittany Beauchan will look to continue her impressive junior season in the breaststroke events as she heads into the conference meet with the top times in the Pac-10. She has tied the school record in the 100 breast (1:00.45) and set a new UCLA best in the 200 (2:01.43).

Sophomore Bianca Casciari heads into the meet ranked ninth in the 100 (53.40) fly and fourth in the 200 fly (1:55.97). She has had a great season and will look to contend for a spot in the finals in both events. Teammate Yasi Jahanshahi had a big meet against USC, swimming a lifetime-best of 1:58.04 in the 200 fly, and will look to make the A final as well (ranked 10th in the Pac-10). In the 400 IM, junior Lauren Hall heads to Pac-10s ranked sixth overall (4:11.12). She broke the school record in the event early in the season and will look to lower that time this weekend. Hall also ranks eighth in the 200 IM (1:59.60).

Freshmen Laurence Delisle and Lindsey Marchand will also look for strong performances this weekend as Delisle ranks in the top 10 in the 200 back (1:57.14, 8th) and Marchand is sixth in the 100 breast (1:01.78, freshman school record).
