Day of Bests for Swimming at Pac-10 Championships

LONG BEACH, Calif. - It was a day of bests at the Pac-10 Women's Swimming Championships for the Beavers who saw 20 individual season or individual bests in the second day of competition at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, Calif.
'It wasn't the best day for the Beavers today,' Oregon State swimming head coach Larry Liebowitz said. 'Our team did not match up very well with the events today but everyone who competed today swam really well.'
Senior Brittney Iverson led the way in the 200-yard individual medley and finished 15th with a career best 2:00.12 in the preliminaries and followed it up with a finals time of 2:00.60. Her preliminary time is good enough for a provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Championships next month.
Sophomore Anna Heller just missed out for qualifying for the finals in the 200 individual medley with a career best time of 2:02.19. Lisa Chewning, Ivette Dailey-Deaton, Marissa Warman, Ellie Bradley, and Rachel O'Brien all set career bests in the event while Nicole Pressprich set a season best.
Rachel Wahl and Amanda Rose both set season bests in the 500-yard freestyle with times of 5:07.00 and 5:14.87 respectively.
The final individual event of the day was the 50 freestyle which saw junior Ashley Kerekanich post a career best 23.42 in the preliminaries which propelled her into the finals where she posted a 23.74 which placed her 23rd overall for the event.
Including Kerekanich's career best, the 50 freestyle saw 10 career of personal bests during the preliminary rounds.
The final event of the day saw a team best time put up by the group of Dole, Iverson, Keri Holmstrom, and Kerekanich in the 200 freestyle relay when they posted a time of 1:33.67
Tomorrow, the Beavers will be competing in the 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, and the 400 medley relay. The individual event preliminaries start at 11 a.m. and the finals for every event will be 6 p.m.
