Two Records Falls in Day Three at the Pac-10 Championships

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The team of Anna Heller, Signe Larson, Anna Crandall and Brittney Iverson swam a school record time of 3:39.92 in the 400 medley relay and Heller set a school record in the 100 backstroke at the Pac-10 Women's Swimming Championships at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, Calif. The time is a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Championships next month.
'It was a pretty spectacular day all around,' Oregon State swimming head coach Larry Liebowitz said following the third day of competition. 'We matched up a lot better with the events today and I think it showed.'
Heller swam a school record time of 53.39 in the 100 backstroke which just beats out former Oregon State swimmer Saori Haruguchi who set the record in 2008 and just misses the NCAA automatic qualifying time of 53.01.
Sophomore Jenni Dole finished eighth in the 100-yard backstoke with a final time of 54.64. She swam a qualifying 100 backstroke time during the morning session with a career best time of 54.64 which is a NCAA provisional qualifying time.
Crandall finished 13th overall in the 100 butterfly with a finals time of 53.25 which is her career best. Her time is also a provisional qualifying time. Dole also received a provisional qualifying time with her career best time of 54.17 in the event.
Crandall added another provisional qualifying time with her seventh place finish in the 200 freestyle. Her time of 1:47.38 in the finals givers her that tie for seventh which is tied for the best finish by an Oregon State swimmer at the Pac-10 Championships.
Senior Brittney Iverson set a career best in the 200 freestyle 1:49.56 and finished 23rd overall with a finals time of 1:49.66.
It was another career day for the Beavers as 20 individual career bests were set Friday along with three season bests.
'I couldn't be prouder of how our team is swimming right now,' Liebowitz said. 'Their commitment to their training is paying off.
Oregon State finishes competition at the 2010 Women's Swimming Pac-10 Championships in Long Beach, Calif. Saturday at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool. It will be swimming in the 1,650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 2oo butterfly, and 400 freestyle relay. Preliminaries start at 11 a.m. with finals starting at 6 p.m.
