Stanford Stops Arizona, 75-48

TUCSON, Ariz. - Kayla Pedersen scored a game-high 26 points to lead #2-ranked Stanford to a 75-48 win over Arizona, Saturday afternoon at McKale Center.
Arizona stayed within striking distance of the Pac-10 champions, trailing by just five at the break. However, the Cats shot just 27.6 percent in the second half, including a 2-for-13 start to the period.
The Cardinal broke open a five-point game with a 19-4 run over 5:21 of the second half to stake a 57-37 advantage. Stanford drained four three-pointers in the spurt, including back-to-back treys by Pedersen.
Stanford senior center Jayne Appel became the Pac-10's all-time career leader in rebounds, besting the previous mark of 1,214 held by Lisa Leslie of USC. Appel finished the game with 11 points and 8 rebounds.
The Cardinal made just 3-of-15 three-point attempts through the first 25 minutes of play, but found the mark late and made 7-of-13 from distance to finish the game and committed just four turnovers in the contest.
Pedersen added 8 rebounds and 7 assists to her game-high scoring total while Nnemkadi Ogwumike had 15 points and 9 rebounds for Stanford (27-1, 17-0). Jeanette Pohlen also added 11 points and 4 assists.
Arizona (13-14, 6-10) hits the road to complete the 2009-10 regular season, starting with a visit to USC on Thursday, March 4 at 7:00 p.m. (PT)
