Vanderbilt Records 10-1 Win Over USC

LOS ANGELES - Bryan Johns went 4-for-5 with two doubles and four RBI Saturday as the Vanderbilt Commodores defeated the USC Trojans, 10-1, at Dedeaux Field. Vanderbilt (5-1) scored four runs in the fifth and put the game away with three runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Commodore starter Taylor Hill (2-0) allowed only one run on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Curt Casali and Jason Esposito had two hits each as Vanderbilt generated 13 hits on the evening.
Sophomore shortstop Taylor Wrenn (Lakeland, Fla.) led the Trojans (3-3) with two hits in the game.
USC scored its lone run in the third when Mike O'Neill played Wrenn on an RBI groundout. Vanderbilt took the lead for good in the fifth after Trojan starter Chad Smith hit Riley Reynolds and Brian Harris with pitches for runners at first and second to lead off the inning. Johns hit a two-run double to right as the Commodores took the lead. Aaron Westlake then recorded an RBI groundout to first and Andrew Giobbi knocked in Johns on a sacrifice fly. Esposito hit his second homer of the season with a two-run shot to left in the seventh.
The Dodgertown Classic concludes tomorrow with USC playing UCLA in a non-conference game, starting at 2 p.m. at Dodger Stadium. The game will be broadcast (audio only) on usctrojans.com with a live television broadcast on FOX Sports Net.
