Softball Rallies but Falls to No. 13 Texas

Feb. 28, 2010

Box Score

Cathedral City, Calif. – Junior Audrey Roderfeld (Vista, Calif.) hit a three-run shot, her third of the season, in the bottom of the seventh to ruin a Texas shutout, but the Oregon State softball team’s seventh inning rally fell short as the Beavers fell to the Longhorns, 7-4.

Roderfeld earned her second multi-hit game of the weekend, going 3-for-4 with one run and three RBI to lead the Beavers. She tacked on a double in the third inning in her second at bat.

Freshman pitcher Marina Demore (Vancouver, British Columbia) had an impressive first collegiate game, coming in relief to pitch in the top of the sixth and throwing two scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts. Adding to her pitching, Demore went 1-for-1 with a run in her first at bat.

The Beavers had just four hits going into the final inning before junior McKenna Lowe (Tustin, Calif.) led off with a single. Sopohomore Paige Hall (Portland, Ore.) advanced Lowe on her infield single to second base before Roderfeld cleared the bases in her long ball to right center. But the hits kept coming.

Sophomore Mary Claire Brenner (Portland, Ore.) and freshman Lea Cavestany (Pittsburg, Calif.) tallied a single each before sophomore Nikki Chandler (Houston, Texas) loaded the bases on a hit by pitch with only one out. A fielder’s choice ground out by sophomore Ashley Sanchez (Alameda, Calif.) put another run on the board to cut the lead to three, but a strikeout ended the game.

Hall was charged with the loss after throwing 0.1 innings and facing five. Senior Kelly Dyer (Eugene, Ore.) came in relief, pitching 4.2 innings with four strikeouts before Demore finished the game.

Texas’ Blaire Luna earned the win, throwing seven innings, while Erin Tresselt came in relief in the seventh and gave up all four Oregon State runs on four hits.

Oregon State heads to the CSUF Worth Classic next weekend, facing No. 22 Northwestern at 11:15 a.m. and UC Davis at 3:45 p.m. on Friday Follow these games live through GameTracker or on Twitter – OregonStateSB.
