WSU Tennis defeated by No. 49 Boise State, 6-1

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State University tennis team (7-4) struggled Sunday against No. 49 Boise State University as they lost 6-1 in Boise.

The highlight of the day's matches was sophomore Elisabeth Fournier winning her 11th straight dual match of the 2010 season. Fournier defeated Lauren Megale 6-4, 7-5 in No. 2 singles.

At No.1 singles, No. 27 Pichittra Thongdach defeated No. 61 Liudmila Vasilieva, 6-0, 6-2. Andjela Kankaras came close to getting a win, taking Elyse Edwards to three sets but falling 1-6, 6-2, (10-6).

In doubles, the Cougars were competitive but the Broncos prevailed winning all three matches. Vasilieva and Kankaras fell to Stephanie Jasper and Marlena Pietzuch 8-6. Jessica Gomez and Ksenia Googe lost to Elyse Edwards and Bianca Jochimsen by the same score.

The Cougars return to Pullman for the start of their Pac-10 conference matches. WSU takes on No. 28 Arizona State Friday, March 5 at 11 a.m. The Cougs play the No. 59 Wildcats of the University of Arizona Saturday, March 6 at 11 a.m. Both matches will be played at the Simmelink Tennis courts in Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
