Boykin Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

BERKELEY - Senior forward Jamal Boykin has been named the Pac-10 Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 22-28., as announced today by the Pacific-10 Conference.
A native of Los Angeles, Calif., Boykin helped the Golden Bears clinch a share of the Pac-10 title for the first time since the 1959-60 season. In wins over Arizona and Arizona State, Boykin averaged 17 points on 14-for-22 (64 percent) shooting from the floor and 8.5 rebounds.
In Thursday's 95-71 win over the Wildcats, Boykin scored 20 points and pulled down 10 boards for his sixth double-double of the season and 12th of his career. Playing in 37 minutes, he was a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. In Saturday's 62-46 victory over the Sun Devils, Boykin was 7-for-9 (78 percent) from the field, scoring 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 32 minutes of action.
For the season, Boykin ranks third in the Pac-10 in field goal percentage (59 percent) and eighth in rebounding (6.7 rpg). He is averaging 11.6 points and ranks second on the team in free throw percentage (86 percent).
This is the first-career weekly honor for Boykin and California's 44th all-time Player of the Week.
