Smit Awarded with Weekly Honor for Pac-10 Triumph

March 2, 2010

STANFORD, Calif-- Stanford senior Julia Smit was awarded with collegeswimming.com's national swimmer of the week award for the third time this season following her record breaking performances at the Pac-10 Championships.

Smit was named the meet's Swimmer of the Meet and received a standing ovation from the crowd on the final night after twice breaking her own American and NCAA mark in the 200 and 400 individual medleys, as well as her school-record in the 200 backstroke over the four-day event.

Smit also was a part of two relay titles as the Cardinal won its first conference title since 2005.

Smit will close out her collegiate career at Purdue at the NCAA Championships from March 18-20. The Cardinal, ranked No. 1 nationally with the University of Georgia, are the meet's favorites.
