ITA National Team Indoor Rematch
UCLA and USC have already met once this season, with the Trojans taking a 4-0 victory over the Bruins in a consolation match at the ITA National Team Indoors back on Feb. 14. Scores from that match can be found HERE. UCLA nearly won the doubles point in that match, however lost in a tiebreaker at court No. 1 in the deciding match.
Pacific Coast Doubles Championships This Weekend
The Bruins will get a little bit of a break from the college season this weekend, as several doubles teams will be heading down to La Jolla, Calif. to take part in the Pacific Coast Doubles Championships at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club. The tournament is unique in that it features a mixture of current college players, former college players, top-ranked juniors and open-level participants all competing in the same draw. The records do not count in the player results for the season. A draw for the tournament can be found HERE.
Bruins Up to No. 6
Following its win over No. 15 Cal last week, UCLA moved up a spot from No. 7 to No. 6 in this week's ITA Rankings released on March 2. Individual rankings were also released and the Bruins have four singles players ranked this week led by Haythem Abid at No. 40. He is followed by No. 50 Matt Brooklyn, No. 92 Amit Inbar and No. 118 Nick Meister. UCLA also has two doubles teams ranked, as Abid and Meister check in at No. 55, followed by Brooklyn and Kallim Stewart at No. 57. Complete rankings can be found HERE.
Bruin Women Head Across Town
Fresh off a pair of impressive victories over No. 11 Stanford and No. 3 Cal last week, the fourth-ranked UCLA women's tennis team (11-1) will also face USC this Wednesday, however that match will be played at the Marks Tennis Stadium on the campus of USC. The Bruins and No. 10 Women of Troy (7-3) are scheduled to get underway at 1:30 p.m. USC's live scoreboard can be accessed by clicking HERE.
Bruins and Ducks This Weekend
After the Bruins face the Women of Troy this Wednesday, UCLA will then head to the Pacific Northwest to face Oregon on Saturday at Noon. The Bruins take a perfect 13-0 all-time record against the Ducks into that match.
Bruins Pull off First Stanford-Cal Sweep in 21 Years
Not since head coach Stella Sampras Webster's freshman season (1988) has UCLA swept both Stanford and Cal in the same weekend, but the Bruins did just that last week at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bruins began the weekend with a dominating 6-1 victory over the 11th-ranked Cardinal, marking UCLA's first win over Stanford since 2008. The Bruins then avenged their lone loss of the season on Sunday, edging No. 3 Cal, 4-3 on Andrea Remynse's match-clinching win over Mari Andersson at court No. 3. UCLA had lost to Cal by the exact same score at the ITA National Team Indoors back in mid-February.
Bruins Remain at No. 4
Despite its upset over No. 3 Cal last week, UCLA remained at No. 4 in the rankings for the third week in a row on Tuesday. Northwestern is the nation's top-ranked team, followed by North Carolina, Notre Dame, UCLA and Cal. Individually, Yasmin Schnack leads all UCLA players at No. 5. She is followed by No. 34 Andrea Remynse, No. 37 Noelle Hickey and No. 124 Stephanie Hoffpauir. Remynse and Schnack made a big jump in the doubles rankings this week, climbing from No. 11 to No. 4. Complete women's rankings can be found HERE.
