'I am thrilled to be joining a driven and seasoned team under the visionary leadership of Commissioner Scott,' Leighton said. 'The recent appointment of Kevin Weiberg as Deputy Commissioner along with dynamic plans for repositioning the conference are exciting steps toward a very bright future for our member institutions. I look forward to combining my experience in sports marketing and my passion for collegiate sports to add significant value to the team.'
The appointment is effective April 5, 2010. Leighton will be responsible for all of the conference's marketing and public relations activities and will be based at conference headquarters in Walnut Creek, CA.
