Saturday's Men's Rowing Pac-10 Challenge Cancelled
March 3, 2010
STANFORD, Calif. - Due to dredging of the Redwood Shores Lagoon, the men's rowing preseason-opening Pac-10 Challenge scheduled for this Saturday, March 6 has been cancelled.
'The city has worked extremely hard to get this job done but with the inclement weather over the past two months things won't wrap up for another week or two,' said Stanford Director of Rowing and men's head coach Craig Amerkhanian.
The men's team will now scrimmage with Santa Clara on Saturday on lower lagoon at Redwood Shores before traveling to the Port of Sacramento for the UC Davis Invitational on Sunday.
'Our team is looking forward to this weekends competition as we prepare for our traditional spring season racing schedule,' Amerkhanian added.
The spring racing will be highlighted by the San Diego Crew Classic on March 27 and 28, Washington at Redwood Shores on April 3 (part of the Cardinal women's Stanford Invitational), April 17 and 18 at Redwood Shores opposite Wisconsin and Michigan (Stanford/Cal Invite) and the Big Row/Breast Cancer Awareness against California on May 1.
Amerkhanian is excited about the 2010 men's season, noting, 'The men continue to strive to maintain the culture that is Stanford Men's Rowing...iron will, crushing power and impeccable technique as we embark on another campaign against the best crews in the country'.
