Constance Ezugha Named ASU Female Athlete of the Week
March 4, 2010
Women's track and field jumper Constance Ezugha has been named ASU's Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 6th. Her best performance of the season came at the right time as she recorded a leap of 6.45m to automatically qualify her for the NCAA Championships. Ezugha moved into third place on ASU's all-time list. Ezugha has continued her strong start to the year, as she has now collected her second Athlete of The Week Award on the season. Ezugha and the other qualified Sun Devils will have their next competition be the 2010 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., on March 12-13.
With just two weeks remaining before the national meet, the rookie needed to improve her provisional qualifying mark in the women's long jump and Ezugha did just that as she won the MPSF Indoor Championships with a leap of 6.45m (21-02.00) to automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships. The leap also stands as the third-best all-time in Arizona State history and currently ranks her tied for eighth-best in the nation so far this year.
